The BCI Network is made up of cooperatives and solidarity economy organizations in DC, Maryland, and Virginia, ranging from projects in the process of incubation to co-ops that have been in operation for over 10 years. Anytime Union Taxi is an accessible, green taxi service based in Montgomery County, Maryland. Founded by drivers in 2014, Anytime Taxi has advocated for legislation calling for increased accessible taxis, and greater fairness and transparency for drivers and the public, which was adopted by the Montgomery County Council in 2015.


 

Baldwin House Community Collective is an affordable housing cooperative and mutual aid hub for working class Washingtonians. Baldwin House began in 2021 with a small group of mutual aid organizers who rallied community support to purchase a mid-size apartment building in Washington, DC, and are now creating tenant-owned affordable housing and a community resource space in Ward 1.


 

Bloc By Bloc News is a media cooperative owned by newsreaders and news producers who help Marylanders make informed decisions in their communities through our reporting, newsletter, and social media.


Brighter Days Collective is a small group of animal lovers providing dog walking services in many neighborhoods in Washington, DC. Brighter Days’ co-owners are uniquely invested in our clients and their animals, committed to providing clients with the best possible care for their pets, with a premium on communication and flexibility.


 

City Garden Co-op is a labor based food co-op located in the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. We sell a variety of local and organic produce, conventional produce, bulk items, homemade bread, and household supplies. City Garden seeks to create a relaxed atmosphere where community members can meet, hang out, and grow friendships while accessing fresh food.


 

The Coalition of Concerned Mothers (COCM) is a grassroots non-profit organization (NPO), founded and led by impacted mothers. COCM brings together mothers in the Washington DC region who have lost their children to police or community violence. We stand in solidarity with impacted families through their journey for justice and accountability, the various phases of grief and healing, and the legal and legislative processes at local, national and federal levels. Our work with leaders, advocates and allies is to create safer communities and reduce the number of lives stolen by state sanctioned and community violence that disproportionately affect people of color.


 

Colmena is a radical worker-owned cooperative for consultants, coaches, and change-makers with systematically marginalized identities and social justice values, who are seeking to create change through new models of work.


 

Community Grocery Co-op is a consumer-owned cooperative that works to provide residents in Wards 7 and 8 access to healthy food and local products that are equitable, affordable and support a healthy lifestyle. We’re also passionate in providing entrepreneurial opportunities, skills training and employment to residents that desire those opportunities.


 

Dulce Hogar (Sweet Home) is a worker-owned house cleaning cooperative in Washington, DC. Dulce Hogar was founded by long-term residents, women, and immigrants who believe it’s possible to have a house cleaning company that provides job security, builds wealth for workers, and provides excellent cleaning services.


 

Earth-Bound Building is a collective of skilled builders, crafts-people and farmers founded in 2014, all of whom share a common love for the land and deep respect for the natural world. We focus on designing and building ecological, affordable and functional homes and farm infrastructure for rural landowners and farmers.


 

Flavorture is the first black, collectively owned and run restaurant in Ward 3, with a mission to redefine food experiences. We provide catering, food delivery, and food services that offer healthy alternatives to traditional food fare by integrating fresh vegetables, herbs, and spices into trending menu options that range from vegetarian to comfort and soul food cuisines.


 

Swamp Rose Co-op provides native plant sales and an ecologically-focused approach to gardening and landscape design using plants native to the DMV. We believe that gardening with native plants can help build a more joyous, equitable, and sustainable world, and that everyone has the right to live and play in vibrant, sustainable landscapes. 


 

Throneless Tech is a technology worker-cooperative that specializes in building technology for social justice oriented community organizations, activist groups, and non-profits. Throneless cooperators have experience in all project phases, including collaboration, discovery, revising, and building, and create complete, accessible, responsive work that is long lasting and durable for causes we believe in.
